Sects on fire-Homecoming weekend kicks off with bonfire

Before Albion could beat Olivet College on Saturday, they first had to beat the rain on Friday.

The spirit bonfire was held on Friday, Oct. 2 with free cider, donuts and a performance by the British Eighth. All fall sports teams spoke to the crowd about how their seasons are going, the cheerleading team performed a couple of cheers and the homecoming court members were announced. Winners of spirit week events were also revealed.

According to Mark Baczewski, director of alumni engagement and an organizer of the event, the turnout was great and the new addition of the band’s mini-parade was a nice start to the event.

“Who doesn’t want to follow the band?” Baczewski said.

Baczewski thought that having the band parade from the quad to the bonfire helped bring people to the bonfire.

Everyone enjoyed the bonfire before the rain started just as people were leaving, according to Baczewski.
