Halloween came a weekend early this year for downtown businesses and Albion families.

On Sunday, the Greater Albion Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Blue Ox Credit Union, hosted their fourth annual “Sweets on Superior.” The community event, which was open to the public, allowed families from Albion as well as neighboring towns to come and celebrate Halloween in the historic downtown.

Anne Flynn, a family coach and co-parent liaison at Calhoun Intermediate School District, was present to hand out candy.

“It’s a beautiful town, and we get to have everybody come in and see what a beautiful place we have,” Flynn said.

The event had a theme of witches & warlocks. Businesses in the Albion area were welcome to participate in the event by setting up a table and handing out candy throughout the day.

Isabel Barroso, mother of a participating family, said Sweets on Superior is important to the community because “it brings us together.”

Alexandria Corter, a Farmers Insurance agent, added, “we need all we can get to get the community together.”

Chicago senior and Superior Street Mercantile employee Shania Clemon-Hawkins said she thinks the “older generation has to set the foundation in order for this type of thing to keep going.”
