Forget the fact that you haven’t seen the sun in three weeks, the future’s looking bright for both Albion swim teams as each is now settled in the national top 25 rankings.
The men are ranked 15th in the College Swim Coaches Association of America poll, while the women, ranked at 21st, moved into the top 25 for the first time in school history.
Nicole Manthei (‘17) was ecstatic over the women’s surge into the CSCAA polls, especially given their turbulent past.
“We were last in the league four years ago, but now the program is completely different,” said Manthei.
She attributed much of their recent achievement to a renewed focus instilled by Head Coach Jacob Taber.
“I couldn’t be happier for this group of women,” said Taber in reference to the women’s historic move into the top 25.
And while the women climb upward, the men are making their own waves led by two time MIAA athlete of the week Sebastian Tostado, who Taber called, “the most versatile swimmer in the MIAA.”
Both teams are coming off statement wins at Calvin College and with two meets remaining, Taber and the rest of team are looking for two things: to “stay healthy and to move up in the conference.”
Upcoming for the Brits is their senior night February 3rd against Olivet. The meet will serve as a dress rehearsal before the MIAA Championships where each team has a chance to grab the title.
