A record-breaking 170 people attended the bi-annual Green Day event, according to Director of CSE Monica Day.

On March 26 in the KC Stack CSE hosted its semesterly event, where various student organizations, clubs, classes and more shared the environmental work they do on campus. This semester’s Green Day also featured student research and projects

Day said the event allows participants “to come together and see all that is being done across campus.”

“It is so important that folks do not feel isolated in their efforts,” Day said. “Every small project can have a big impact.”

This semester, CSE launched a new initiative, “Climate Stories,” where students from various backgrounds and experiences had the opportunity to present “how they’re touched by climate change,” Day said.

CSE Faculty Director and earth & environment professor Thom Wilch also helped set up the Green Day event.

“I’m really interested in students thinking about how they relate to the environment in their own lives and also how that may inspire them to action,” Wilch said.

Seattle senior Ella Hardwick, CSE’s communications and outreach intern, said that having the efforts of all organizations made it possible to foster unity within the event.

“Environment(al) issues impact everybody and they can impact people in different ways,” Hardwick said. “During these times it’s especially important to show how people are continuing to do this work.”

I’ve done a lot of environmental chemistry science stuff and research, but I wanted to do a little bit more,” Hardwick said (Photo by Gabriela Popa).
