Comic & Crossword: ‘Albion-isms’

Three panels show sketchy illustrations. The top panel shows the front counter in lower Baldwin, where a student is working at a table next to the counter and a man sits at the counter with a hat with colored pins on it. Cookies, cereal, lettuce and torn napkins border the illustration, with “Baldy,” Baldwin written on one, pointing at the scene.

The second panel shows a black squirrel surrounded by grass eating from a muffin wrapper. Leaves, a piece of a fruit gummy packet and torn napkins border the illustration, with “Black squirrel” and “Muffin wrapper” written on the napkins pointing at their respective subject.

The third and final panel shows downtown Albion, where buildings line the main brick street. Birds fly through the blue sky, and the road is lined with people and tents with a parade of people walking down the center. Torn napkins and the corner of a flier for the Library’s annual book sale border the illustration, with “Festival of the Forks” written on one, with an arrow pointing at the scene.
Three scenes from Albion’s campus and community, including Baldwin, a black squirrel and downtown Albion during Festival of the Forks. Each scene is an example of an “Albion-ism,” an iconic phrase or characteristic of Albion College (Illustration by Bonnie Lord).
